| Baseball betting is nothing new and neither is throwing a game to make sure you win your bet. In 1919 the White Sox faced off with the Cincinnati Reds and lost.
Later it was suggested that eight of the players made mistakes to make sure that the Reds won the game. Even though, technically, it is not a crime to throw a game, all eight players were banned from baseball for life the next year. So the players that committed the conspiracy didn’t get to win a World Series and they didn’t get to keep playing baseball, but the bookies who paid them made out like bandits. |
