Here’s a tip: if you’re spilling sensitive information about the 2016 Democratic field: don’t do it on the Amtrak between D.C. and New York City, because there might be a reporter sitting across the aisle.
Lanny Davis, the DC power broker who has long been a Clinton ally, unloaded on 2016–and what he thinks of everyone running against Hillary Clinton.
Unfortunately, TownHall reporter, Guy Benson, was sitting right there and overheard the whole thing.
On Hillary’s chief rival at the moment, Bernie Sanders, Davis was quick to dismiss him. “There’s no way he can be nominated — ever,” Davis said. One of his traveling companions agreed, calling Sanders “a nut.”
He also slammed Sanders for being a “flip-flopper”.
He also had similarly harsh words for Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina, the only two Republicans he mentioned. Trump is “awful,” if amusing. Fiorina is “so nasty,” and Davis charmingly pointed out that he uses the pronoun “it” rather than “she” to describe the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard.
But his real frustration was centered on Vice President Joe Biden, who has yet to throw his hat into the ring–but is expected to be Hillary’s strongest challenger.
“Memories are short,” Davis said, reminding his companions that Biden has always been a “buffoon.”
He didn’t seem very concerned with Biden’s threat, either, claiming that, “He’s in third place!” behind both Hillary and Sanders.
But then he spent time to gush about his benefactor, Hillary Clinton. He thinks her collapsing poll numbers have hit “the bottom of the bottom” and that she’ll still have a clear path to the nomination.
He also expects Hillary to “slaughter” Sanders in the upcoming Democratic debate, because “she’s so good” at debating, apparently.
