Favorite Movies of Republicans and Democrats Revealed

by -

While few differences exist between political leaders who declare themselves either Republican or Democrat, when it comes to Americans who self-identify alliance with one political party or another, the contrasts are stark.

Just to see how far apart the partisan public really is, we did a bit of spying on favorite social network, Facebook.

When searching for “favorite movies of republicans,” we weren’t too surprised at the results. Here are the top five:

  1. The Notebook – What red-blooded ‘merican hates this spicy tale of the Greatest Generation?
  2. The Hangover – Really?
  3. Goodfellas – Maybe Republicans are heartless after all.
  4. God’s Not Dead – B Movie about the ultimate A-lister.
  5. The Blind Side – Football, Southern Charm and helping out giant black kids. Makes sense pre-Ferguson.

And an honorable mention of Dirty Dancing in the seventh position.

For Democrats, well, either Facebook is messing with us or something horrible is going on with 31 percent of America:

  1. Purple Rain – No words can describe the horror . . .
  2. The Hangover – Maybe they have more in common than they think. But, really?
  3. The Color Purple – Maybe it’s a purple thing.
  4. Coming to America – Totally acceptable.
  5. AMC Theatres – While not technically a movie, maybe Dems get out more?

And an honorable mention to Democrats with their choice of Scarface pulling in ninth place.

Just out of curiosity and a lack of caffeine, we pulled the same move on Libertarians. To say these choices are predictable is an understatement for those who run with big and little “L’s.”

  1. Atlas Shrugged The Movie – Duh.
  2. Star Wars – Double duh.
  3. Pulp Fiction – Predictable but better.
  4. Fight Club – Do you see the theme here yet?
  5. Gladiator – “Today I saw a slave become more powerful than the Emperor of Rome.”

While predictable, Libertarians as a group show commonality in that their top five movies have a running theme of rebellion.

As for Republicans and Democrats, they should be asking Libertarians to share their Netflix queue. Everyone could use a little rebellion in their lives and imaginations.

  • And “they” say there is a difference between Republicans & Democrats. False. Simply put, without Conservatives and Liberals and Libertarians and Communists you have one big crappy family. Zombie-Nation !!
