Chuck Grassley

A big-name Republican Senator has decided to investigate the murder of a woman by an illegal alien on his own–after he decided he had enough with the Obama Administration.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) took the Department of Homeland Security to task in a scathing letter to DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson.

He claims that DHS is doing far too little to make sure dangerous illegal alien criminals are staying off the street and are removed from the nation.

His letter comes in direct response to the murder of a woman, Marilyn Pharis of Santa Maria, California, on July 24.

At least one of them men charged in her murder is apparently an illegal immigrant, Victor Aureliano Martinez Ramirez. He was previously arrested, but set free, on two separate occasions in the last six years, including once on drug and sexual assault charges in 2014.

“Clearly, there has been a total breakdown in cooperation between local and federal law enforcement that allowed this alleged killer to be released and, despite his lengthy and violent criminal record, never deported,” Grassley wrote in his letter. “[Santa Marta] Police Chief Martin said, ‘I am not remiss to say that from Washington, D.C., to Sacramento, there’s a blood trail into the bedroom of Marilyn Pharis.'”

Grassley is now demanding that DHS gives the Senate Judiciary Committee–which Grassley chairs–more information about the immigration status of both alleged killers.

Pharis’s death comes as part of a recent wave of killings by illegal immigrants. She was murdered just weeks after Kate Steinle was gunned down by an illegal immigrant on a crowded touristy street in San Francisco.

Santa Marta, where Pharis was killed, and San Francisco, where Steinle was killed, are both sanctuary cities–cities that intentionally ignore federal requests to detain illegal immigrants with criminal records.
