Trump Advises Flynn to Ask For Immunity in “Witch Hunt”

Hillary had a few of these.

In what President Trump has, himself, described as a ‘witch hunt’ of ‘historic proportion,’ on Friday, March 31, 2017, said that his former national security adviser is right to ask for immunity in exchange for answering questions related to Russia’s alleged ties to the Trump campaign team.

Mike Flynn, a retired United States Army lieutenant general, and President Trump’s first national security adviser, saw his offer to testify in the congressional probe into Russia’s potential connection with the Trump campaign team, in return for protection against unfair prosecution, be backed by the president himself.

Indicating that the retired general wants immunity, Flynn’s attorney said on Thursday that he is currently in discussion with the House and Senate intelligence committees.

Attorney Robert Kelner said that Flynn “certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” but appealed that he’s operating in a “highly politicized, witch hunt environment” and wants assurances.

Trump backed Flynn’s demand today.

“Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse for big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion!” he tweeted today.

The Associated Press has also reported that a congressional aide confirmed discussions with the Senate Intelligence Committee involved immunity.

The House and Senate intelligence committees are probing into claims of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election and the alleged ties between Trump’s aides and Moscow. FBI and both the committees are also scrutinizing Flynn’s ties to Russia.

In recent weeks, four other Trump associates have agreed to talk to the committees. As of Wednesday, the Senate intelligence had requested to interview 20 people related to the investigation.

On the flip side of the case, Trump and allies say that the leaking of sensitive information and the previous administration’s surveillance of Trump’s team is a much bigger problem. While FBI Director James Comey has denied the allegations of wiretapping Trump’s campaign ordered by former president Barack Obama, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, stated that he has found out some communication between the Trump team was incidentally collected during the transition.
